Kenyan-based speculative fiction magazine, Will This Be A Problem? Is looking for an editorial assistant to provide administrative support to the editorial team and assist throughout the editorial process from submissions to publication. This will be a part-time freelance role, and you will be required three times a week.

The editorial assistant will:
Work alongside the editorial team to plan, implement, and manage the publication schedule
Liaise with other in-house teams, writers, printers, designers and production staff to negotiate and monitor timescales for stages in the publishing process
Proofread stories and manuscripts to identify any grammatical and spelling errors
Deal with email queries, e.g. from writers and the public
Deal with the administration of work commissioned to illustrators, graphic designers and researchers
Take the lead during production checks (the last check before the text goes to print)
Review layouts and designs for publication covers

The ideal candidate will:

Be located in East African Time. (Other time zones OK, but ideally, you will be available during EAT working hours)
Be an extremely avid reader with a strong interest in speculative fiction, fantasy, science-fiction, and horror (interests in art, history and podcasting a bonus)
Have at least two years of proven work experience in journalism or another writing field (recent graduates from journalism and writing programs are welcome to apply)
Have a strong interest in learning how to run a successful, efficient editorial team
Have a great eye for detail and a keen ability to spot mistakes
Have excellent time management skills
Be organised, efficient, independent, and communicative
Have a strong command of the English language
Have in-depth knowledge of the publication process and commercial awareness of trends in the publishing industry
Be a team player with exceptional communication skills
